1) There are no brake caliper reinforment on the fork and seat stay. Wouldn't the brake caliper washer 'teeth' bite in to the carbon? If you used the flat washers, it wouldn't be enough to hold it in place. At least, that is what I experienced. What I did was to epoxy an 6mm ID aluminium washers to the fork and seat stay so that I can use the 'jagged' washers so that the brake calipers wouldn't rotate under high torque. Pic of my epoxied washer here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jq2r5euu4l02032/20121224_174512.jpg
Yeah I've let them bed into the carbon, Setting the brake up they haven't moved and I spent some time twisting them once fully torqued up, the washer does not move and the adjusting bolt does, if it ever did move and grind the surface I can epoxy a washer and it would be nicely "roughed" up to accept the resin ;o) Thanks for the suggestion.
Hi nice bike! Im interested in ordering one from Greatkeen. I have a few questions. Did you buy the wheels from him and if so did they come built? Did you purchase the groupo or source it locally? How is the bike holding up today, any problems? Also, did you buy the saddle off him? Thanks a lot for the help!
I am building mine at the moment. My brake calipers are shifting and I am a little nervous to do them up too tight as there seems very little carbon between the nut and bolt.
With the internal routing, are the cables without housing when internal, and then housed externally?
Jerry didn't sent the headset and seatpost clamp so it is all on hold until I get these pretty important bits!
I had no problem with the brakes, they have the jaged washer to stop movement and I tightened them plenty, some say to resin a stainless washer but I just cranked it up against the carbon. Not sure why you think there's not much carbon between nut and bolt unless your frame is a different one. There is no internal cable sheathes, I asked the question and most of the new frames don't need it, the cable doesn't touch the frame as the inserts hold it about 10mm from the frame and the route is direct to each insert, no bends to go round from top to bottom, I suspect from BB to the rear stay might touch but it shifts with no problems.
looking forward to how it turns out eventually.

ReplyDeleteJust frame, seat post, forks, handlebar and stem. Bike going strong, done some 43mph descents no problem. Loving the frame.

ReplyDeleteThanks, how did you know what thread pattern to get? BTW this is my first build
