Front Derailleur Bracket

I had this page taken down for a copyright infringement that I can't so far find out why so I've taken any brand names off and links to shops in the hope that sorts it.

Having had some issues with the front hanger, I ordered two replacement brackets. One which turned out to be curved and not adaptable at all as the whole geometry was wrong. The second was much better

Here are the side by side pics, new one on the left existing china one on the right

Now when I ordered, I could see the base plate that bolts to the frame looked much thicker, I expected the bracket to set the derailleur too far out, but quite the opposite, it sets it closer to the frame as the slot is not as far out, so the offset is less. Fortunately, there is enough tolerance in the mech to cope. I've installed everything and now changing the front when on the largest cog at the back is 10 times smoother, all changing is better, the new bracket has a much narrower slot which leaves much more material to do the job.

The new bracket is much deeper than the china one, and it just fits in the recess in the frame. All in all a much better product. I have done another 14 mile TT and several solo rides and it's performing perfectly.

  1. Thanks for all the information. I have been keeping an eye on your blog to see how you get on with the bike as I myself want to buy one of these frames. Keep us updated.

  2. I bought the RFM201 and it had a lousy thin front D hanger and the part where the front D hangar is in contact with the front D is so thin, that you can bent it when you tighten the front D attachment bolt.

I just got the RFM301 and the front D hanger now is much thicker and stronger. So too is the upper saddle rail clamp plate. So I'm happy with the improvement.

What I wasn't happy about was that Great Keen over painted the frame which spilled to the BB threads and the headset upper and lower cups. These are sensitive areas which require precision and I had to carefully file off the paint with my dremel.

I also scrape of the paint at the brake caliper mount to epoxy and aluminium washer at the mount so that the brake caliper washers can bite intro the epoxied reinforcement and not rotate easily.

I haven't ride it yet. Took me a day to build up.

    1. Hi, I've had a C&D notice about this bracket thread, as yet they have not told me what I've done wrong. I had links to brand and where so either the shop has complained or the brand! So I daren't put another link here. If you do a search for a brand in the clue and put front derailleur bracket with it you'll find one that looks like mine in the pics

      clue "James and the _ _ _ _ _ peach"

      hope that helps.

  14. I just stumbled on this. I bought a pinarello clone and have been training on it all summer, literally first tri on it is a week from today, went to three bike stores yesterday all said front derailleur hanger is bent or cracked. It looks very similar to the one on the right above that you posted. Could you send me a link to the one you used to replace it? Also, how did you get the old one off? garrisonmt@aol.com Thanks!!

  15. Hi, stumbled across this, wondered if you could help? Im after a front mech bracket for a Pinarello Montello FP8. It measured c 15.5mm hole centres (5/8"?). I got a replacement bracket from Pinarello importers "Yellow" but they have sent me one with 13mm ctrs. Does anyone know what hole centres the Giant one is, as mentioned above? Cheers

  16. Please, could you estimate does this frame take any wider than 25 mm tyres?
